In Jammu and Kashmir, the maiden assembly elections after the abrogation of Article 370 resulted in the National Conference emerging as the single largest party with 42 seats. Many prominent candidates, including several former ministers and party leaders, suffered defeats. Even high-profile campaigns by senior political leaders could not secure wins for some BJP and Congress candidates.
