Former President Donald Trump's outspoken niece took aim at the media on Tuesday night over criticism that Vice President Kamala Harris has ducked mainstream news outlets in favor of less orthodox platforms — even as the MAGA leader reportedly backed out of an agreed-upon "60 Minutes" interview.
Mary Trump took to her newsletter, "The Good In Us" to note that Harris has done several interviews this week, including on the popular "Call Her Daddy" podcast, in a sit-down with comedian Stephen Colbert, radio host Howard Stern and the hosts of "The View."
Mary Trump argued journalists ought to be appeased. Instead, she said, "they've moved the goalposts."
"After years of abdicating its journalistic responsibility by showering the man who calls them 'the enemy of the people' with billions of dollars in unearned media, and failing to cover even his most egregious conduct with the scrutiny it deserves, the corporate media has decided to get tough with Kamala Harris just as they did with President Biden. It’s as if they think we won’t notice the double-standard. But we do," she wrote.
She noted her uncle reportedly ducked a "60 Minutes" interview over "fact-checking (think about the implications of that for a second)."
Ms. Trump also argued that Harris' interview on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast was both lengthy and "substantive," touching on a range of issues important to voters including reproductive rights.
Mary Trump said it's hard to imagine a better media strategy than the one put together by Harris and her team. Harris is trying to beat Donald Trump and isn't concerned with "Beltway media."
"And that’s the problem—at least from the perspective of a still white-male dominated industry that considers itself the sine qua non of political discourse," said Ms. Trump. "Because Kamala Harris refuses to kiss the rings of those corporate media masters, a refusal they cannot fathom or accept, they seek to tear her down."
