What Rays fans need to know about these Hurricanes
And a brief personal note on the lack of content this week.
It’s been a terrible couple of weeks.
The Rays season did not end as we all wanted, but I had every intention of supporting the club for the final series of the year. My eldest had been begging to get to a game, but then came Helene’s floodwaters, and instead of sitting in Fenway Park the Sunday before last I was on flight with a ticket purchased at the last minute.
Hurricanes come for all in Florida, but this was a first. Family members had between 6 inches and 4 feet of flooding. We spent the next week ripping drywall, exposing standing brackish water, and laboring in the Florida heat.
I flew back home this weekend thinking the worst was behind us. Now, another hurricane is on the horizon. Thanks for your patience with content going up on the site, it’s been a weird and difficult time.
If you or your families are in the path of the coming storm, please evacuate. Reach out, don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it.
We know that Tropicana Field is being used as a base of operations for first supporters. The park is considered 15’ above sea level, which is concurrent with the height of the projected flooding coming this week.
Here is a collection of resources that can help you and yours in the coming week:
- Follow the latest news. Official projections from the government are available at NOAA.gov
- If you are local and want to understand the nuances of the impact on Tampa Bay, local news outlets are an effective resource. We recommend Denis Phillips:

- If you are impacted by the storm, do not hesitate to apply for the many resources Americans are entitled to from FEMA: http://DisasterAssistance.gov - this includes both Helene and Milton
- If you don’t know where to evacuate, Here is a list of shelters in the Tampa Bay area. If you are able to travel a distance, there are many Red Cross shelters throughout the state and beyond. Bring blankets and an air mattress, if you can, if you are utilizing a shelter.
- If a vehicle is not available to you, there are Free Uber rides for people evacuating Hurricane Milton in Florida and going to shelters. Tap Account on the bottom right & tap Wallet, then add promo code MILTONRELIEF
God Speed, Rays fans. We’ll get through this together.
