'She presented a threat to officers': One dead after collision, officer-involved shooting
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - It was a chaotic scene in Northwest Oklahoma City Thursday night.
“It just sounded like pop after pop after pop,” said Paul Ornelas. “I just didn’t feel safe being outside any longer.”
Oklahoma City Police officers were called near NW 122nd St. & N MacArthur Blvd. around 10:30 p.m., after a woman who was a suspect in an earlier incident got into a car crash.
"After the collision, that suspect had a firearm and was shooting off rounds from that firearm,” said Capt. Valerie Littlejohn with OKCPD. “We don't know if she was shooting at anyone or just shooting them off in the air or into the ground."
Capt. Littlejohn said officers tried to make contact with the woman.
"She presented a threat to the officers with that firearm,” said Capt. Littlejohn. “Officers discharged their firearms striking that suspect."
The woman was taken to the hospital where she died.
"I mean it's a little upsetting,” said Ornelas.
Ornelas has lived in a nearby apartment complex for more than a year.
"This area is really tame, really calm,” said Ornelas. “This is the first time that I've seen something like this happen here. Not even like burglaries or car thefts in the area either."
OKCPD said seven officers were involved in the shooting but were not injured. They’ve all been placed on routine administrative leave.
