Van Jones accuses 'rambling' CNN guest of pulling talking points out of 'Cracker Jack box'
A CNN discussion over the hot-button topic of immigration quickly turned heated Friday when a former Obama White House official and GOP political consultant couldn’t stop talking over each other in an on-air moment that prompted host Laura Coates to jump in.
From the start of the segment on “Laura Coates Live” that began with former President Donald Trump’s vow to crack down on migrant gangs, CNN analyst Van Jones and 1776 Project PAC founder Ryan Girdusky could not find common ground.
Then they turned to the issue of democracy.
"Every election Democrats don’t win, they kick and stomp their feet, they sit there and they say it’s stolen,” Girdusky said. He continued: “If you care about the institution of democracy, Democrats have been disenfranchising it for 20 years since the Bush administration.
“That’s a complete lie,” Jones quickly shot back. “That’s a complete lie.”
“They just have – they said Ohio was stolen in ‘04,” Girdusky said as they both tried to make their point while talking over each other. That’s when Coates jumped in.
“Hold on, hold on – don’t, wait – don’t talk over each other,” she then allowed Jones to finish his point.
“You’re letting him ramble on with these talking points that he can pull out of a Cracker Jack box," Jones said before adding that it was impossible to try to normalize Donald Trump’s actions on Jan. 6 “if you care about democracy.”
“I care about democracy,” Ryan snapped back.
“You don’t care much,” Jones responded. He then reminded Girdusky that the difference between the elections in 2000 and 2020 was “something called a concession speech.”
“And the fact that we never got a concession speech from Donald Trump, and may not this time, is what puts the whole republic at risk,” Jones said.
