Samarjitsinh Ranjitsinh Gaekwad was born in April 1967. The only son of Ranjitsinh Pratapsinh Gaekwad and Shubhanginiraje, Samarjitsinh Ranjitsinh Gaekwad hails from the royal Gaekwad family of Baroda. He studied at the Doon School where he developed a keen interest in sports from an early age. During his time there, he captained the school’s teams in football, tennis, and cricket, showcasing his talent across multiple disciplines.
Samarjitsinh Gaekwad played competitive cricket, representing Baroda in the esteemed Ranji Trophy. As a top-order batsman, he participated in the 1987/88 and 1988/89 seasons. After hanging up his bat, he remained connected to the sport and later took on the role of president of the Baroda Cricket Association.
