90s sitcom star looks unrecognisable 25 years after hit show ended – can you tell who it is?
A STAR of a beloved 90s sitcom looks unrecognisable – 25 years after the hit show came to an end.
Having been spotted recently out and about, do you recognise who it is?
Richard Karn looked very different as he made a call in LA this week[/caption] The actor is best loved for being on Home Improvements[/caption]He was a familiar face on viewers’ TV screens for eight seasons on ABC.
Richard Karn, 68, played Al Borland on long-running comedy Home Improvement.
He starred opposite the likes of Tim Allen, Patricia Richardson, Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Earl Hindman.
The actor was snapped alongside wife Tudi Roche as they headed out for grocery shopping in Los Angeles.
Richard wore a short-sleeve golf shirt, navy blue shorts and grey slip-on sneakers.
Meanwhile, former game show host Richard has slimmed down and now sports grey hair and a white beard.
On Home Improvement, Al served as the co-host of “Tool Time”, a show-within-the-show.
Tim’s right-hand man was well-known for his beard and repeated attire of plaid flannel shirts.
The character co-hosted Tool Time with Tim Allen’s character Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor.
Despite his secondary position, however, Al was actually the more knowledgeable of the two.
Viewers may be shocked to learn how Richard wasn’t originally set to play Al.
The role was initially intended for Groundhog Day actor Stephen Tobolowsky, who fans would remember as salesman Ned Ryerson.
However, the now 73-year-old character actor bowed out due to scheduling reasons.
Richard received the role instead and soon won over the show’s audience.
Bumped up to the regular cast beginning in season two, the rest, as they say, is history.
After Home Improvement, the star later hosted Family Feud from 2002 to 2006.
In 2013, Richard reunited with Tim Allen in two episodes of the latter’s sitcom Last Man Standing.
The pair also continued their on-screen partnership by hosting Assembly Required and More Power.
