31 'Coraline' cat sculptures come together for final weekend before auction
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- If you noticed some "curious" felines conspicuously disappearing from downtown Portland earlier than expected, you can still see them all gathered in one place for one final weekend starting Saturday.
The 31 statues from Coraline's Curious Cat Trail were originally unveiled in early August at the South Waterfront.
Hillsboro-based LAIKA Animation Studios - who originally made the film - partnered with Visit Downtown, Downtown Portland Clean & Safe, Wild in Art and more for the project.
All of the sculptures, depicting “Cat” from the film, were painted by area artists and placed around downtown.
The film centers on a brave and blue-haired young girl who finds herself in an alternate universe at her family’s new home in Ashland, Ore. The unveiling of the sculptures also coincided with the 15th anniversary of the movie’s release.
The sculptures will all be gathered in Director Park this weekend for a final celebration.
Next, they will be auctioned off on Oct. 30, with proceeds going to OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
