Fire officials battle two blazes in Schenectady

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Schenectady Fire Department responded to back-to-back fire calls early on Saturday. No injuries were reported for both fires.

Chief Dan Mareno said the first fire they responded to was at a two-family home on Fairview Avenue around 1:45 a.m. Mareno said firefighters first encountered fire in the attic and assisted six residents out of the house.

The Fairview fire was under control in an hour and a half of crews arriving, and the building is scheduled to be taken down late Saturday. As crews returned to the station around 4:30 a.m., a second structure fire on Albany Street was called in.

Mareno said the second fire was in a multi-family home, and flames were seen coming out of the second-story bedroom window. Although an order to vacate sign was on the building, firefighters helped two people living in the home.

The second fire was under control within 25 minutes after crews arrived. Both fires are under investigation.
