Man Utd want to sell £80m signing for £10m as Ten Hag tells club he's surplus to requirements - report
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has decided that Harry Maguire is surplus to requirements, and the club are willing to sell him for £10 million in January, according to the Daily Star.
The Red Devils signed the England international for £80m from Leicester City in 2019, but he has fallen out of favour under the Dutchman and was close to being sold last summer.
Injuries to other players have given Maguire an opportunity to reestablish himself, but he is behind Matthias de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro and Jonny Evans if everyone is fit.
The 31-year-old is currently in the last year of his contract at the club, but Man United have the option to extend it by 12 months and could trigger the clause if they fail to sell him in January.
If Maguire remains on the market, he will not be short of options next summer, and he will look to get back into the starting XI once he returns from a fresh injury.
He has played in nine games across all competitions this term and has remained a dependable player.
However, Ten Hag rates his younger options higher than the Englishman, and getting his £190,000-per-week salary off their wage bill will also appeal to the club.
They are also keen on getting Casemiro and Antony out of the club, and some high-profile departures are expected in January and next summer.
Man United spent around £180m on Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, Yoro, De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui during the summer transfer window.
They will be desperate to balance the books to stay within the confines of Profit and Sustainability Rules by selling some high earners.
