Defense travels: Bears, Montez Sweat hold down Jaguars

0

LONDON — Montez Sweat’s body never felt normal at any point this week, a combination of jet lag, sleeping in a new bed and breaking up his routine.

“Even toward the end, it was a little bit off,” he said.

It didn’t matter Sunday, when he was one of five Bears credited with at least a partial sack in a 35-16 win against the Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Sweat shared a sack with defensive tackle Byron Cowart, while defensive end DeMarcus Walker, defensive tackle Chris Williams and linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga had one apiece.

“I’ve never been a part of a D-line where the sacks are spread all over across the room,” Swift said.

The Bears were dominant against a bumbling Jaguars offense, holding them to 3.4 yards per carry. They forced two turnovers — linebacker T.J. Edwards punched at an Evan Engram fumble on the first play of the second half and cornerback Josh Blackwell intercepted Trevor Lawrence's pass intended for Christian Kirk early in the fourth quarter — and could have had another had replay not overturned a fumble.

“It just makes us more hungry, man,” Sweat said. “At some point I was almost tired of the offense converting. We wanted to go back out there and make more plays.”

Sweat was the last person to leave the Bears locker room — but happy to be heading home.

“Coming over here is definitely a shakeoff from your regular routine, but it’s another challenge we have to take,” he said. “It makes it more fun, beating the other team.”
