In NC, Harris digs at Trump over medical records, debate

0

GREENVILLE, N.C. — Vice President Harris on Sunday took digs at former President Trump, suggesting that he is hiding away so voters don’t know the truth about him.

“He refuses to release his medical records. I’ve done it. Every other presidential candidate in [the] modern era has done it. He is unwilling to do a '60 Minutes' interview like every other major party candidate has done for over half a century. He is unwilling to meet for a second debate,” Harris said at a rally at East Carolina University.

She further pushed: “And here’s the thing, it makes you wonder, it makes you wonder. Why does his staff want him to hide away? One must question, are they afraid that people will see that he is too weak and unstable?”

Harris on Saturday released her medical history, which said she is in “excellent health” and has the physical and mental resiliency required to be president, and put pressure on Trump to do the same. Trump, 78, in August said he would “very gladly” release his medical records to the public, but he has not done so.

The vice president has also called on Trump to participate in a second debate. He has shut the door on another match-up before Election Day.

“I do believe Donald Trump is an unserious man, but the effects of him being back in the White House would be brutally serious,” Harris said in Greenville, in a county that President Biden carried by 9 points over Trump in 2020.

The crowd started yelling, “Lock him up.”

“Hold on! Here’s the thing. Let’s let the courts handle that and let’s handle November,” she added.

She later called him out for spreading disinformation in the wake of Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.

Thousands of rally attendees wore light-up wristbands and held up signs that read “Vote for Freedom,” “vote,” “Harris Walz” and “Iwillvote.com/NC.” Early voting starts Thursday in North Carolina.

Rep. Don Davis (D-N.C.) and Rachel Hunt (D), who is running for North Carolina lieutenant governor, spoke before Harris. According to the campaign, 7,000 people attended.

Trump is leading Harris by 0.7 percentage points in North Carolina, according to Decision Desk HQ/The Hill’s aggregate polling. Trump won the Tar Heel State in 2016 and 2020, and a Democrat hasn’t won it since former President Obama in 2008.

Earlier on Sunday, Harris made an appeal to Black voters and participated in a Sunday service in Greenville. She spoke to fellow worshipers about hurricane disinformation and teachings from the Bible about helping others.
