BRITS can look forward to 22C temperatures this week as southerly winds move in – but the Autumn sun won’t last for long.

Met Office maps have revealed the exact dates the mercury is set to rise, with “dry and sunny spells”.

The milder weather comes as high pressure moves away to the east, and southerly winds drag warmer air across the UK.

Those in the southeast of England can expect a band of rain on Monday morning, but this should clear by the afternoon for most as the showers move eastwards.

Meanwhile the north of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland are forecast a “dry and bright day with a decent amount of sunshine”.

Temperatures are predicted to remain mild, with highs of 16C across parts of Devon.

On Tuesday, conditions will take a dip, and heavy cloud cover with a strong breeze in the south will make the air feel chillier, while more sunshine is expected in the north.

But by late afternoon the mercury is forecast to climb and London could see highs of 18C, with the rest of the UK remaining in double figures.

Some downpours are also expected to pass across the west throughout the day.

The exact day temperatures are forecast to reach highs of 22C is on Wednesday.

Those in the south east of England are due the warmest weather, while highs of 17C are expected in the north.

Despite the spike in temperature, there will still be “outbreaks of heavy rain”.

The Met Office’s Amy Bokotoa said: “As we begin to see our winds switch around to more of a southerly direction we start to drag up milder air as we head towards the middle part of the week, turning milder day on day with a peak around Wednesday, perhaps getting temperatures up in towards the early 20s.”

Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan added: “Temperatures are going to rise gradually, peaking probably on Wednesday in eastern areas, and we might well see in some spots 20C.

“And 22C is not out of question, probably in eastern England – so East Anglia down towards the South East.

“But it will be much milder compared to now for everyone.

“It’s possible we could exceed 20C in London but the peak temperatures might well be up towards the home counties and up to Cambridgeshire.

“There’s going to be a stark contrast in temperatures between today and Wednesday.

“Some places will be 10C warmer because today is a very chilly day for early October, so the main theme for this week that it’s turning much milder for all.”

But, by the end of the week conditions are expected to turn blistery and wet with next weekend “looking pretty unsettled”.

UK five day weather forecast
