We bought a doer-upper & found a creepy surprise under our kitchen floor – now we’ve made it into a feature
IMAGINE moving into a new house, and making a creepy discovery underneath the kitchen floor just minutes later.
That’s exactly what happened to one couple, who took to TikTok to document their incredible find.
A couple, who has recentlu moved to the house, were stunned by what they discovered under the kitchen floor[/caption] Rhys lifted up the wooden floor to reveal the concrete cover beneath[/caption] He pulled the concrete of the way to show the well beneath[/caption]In a video on their social media pages, Emma and Rhys showed themselves lifting up a wooden piece of flooring to reveal a metal cover beneath.
They then lifted up that cover, only to find a 20ft well beneath.
What came next was months of investigations, as they tried to figure out just how deep the well was, as well as whether the water inside was safe to drink, and how they could make a feature from it.
“When we first came to view our house this was one of the coolest features we found,” Emma explained.
“In the middle of the kitchen under the floor there’s a huge well!
“We got the keys about 10 minutes ago and we’re straight in there to have a good look…
“We’ve seen a couple of these wells online but nothing quite prepares you for them.
“They’re really cool but they’re also really creepy.”
Emma explained that they were thinking about how they could put some lights inside it, put a glass top on it and make it into a feature in the room.
They designed a steel collar to put over the top of the well entrance – to “tidy up any edges” and to have something to put the glass on top of.
But people in the comments section were unconvinced by the well feature, with many telling Emma and Rhys to watch the horror movie The Ring.
“I’ve seen The Ring. close it up,” one wrote.
“Absolutely not, Samara be coming out in 7 days time,” another added.
“Don’t you think there is a reason it was concreted up with like 50 layers?” a third raged.
“Nope nope nope!” someone else said.
“All I can think about is the movie The Ring!”
Moving house hacks
1. Declutter Before You Pack
Sort through your belongings and get rid of anything you no longer need. Donate, sell, or recycle items to lighten your load.
2. Create an Inventory
Make a list of all your items. This helps keep track of everything and ensures nothing gets lost in the move.
3. Use Quality Packing Materials
Invest in sturdy boxes, bubble wrap, and packing tape. This will protect your belongings during the move.
4. Label Everything
Clearly label each box with its contents and the room it belongs to. This makes unpacking much easier and more organized.
5. Pack a ‘First Day’ Box
Include essentials like toiletries, a change of clothes, snacks, and important documents. This will keep you from rummaging through boxes on your first day.
6. Take Photos of Electronics Setup
Before unplugging your electronics, take photos of the wiring setup. This will make it easier to reconnect everything at your new place.
7. Use Suitcases for Heavy Items
Pack books and other heavy items in rolling suitcases. This makes them easier to transport and reduces the risk of injury.
8. Colour-Code Your Boxes
Use different coloured stickers or markers for each room. This will help movers quickly identify where each box should go in your new home.
“I suggest a quick film for ya, It’s called the Ring …2004,” another said.
The well wasn’t the only “quirky surprise” in the property either.
They also found an “old derelict cellar” that they’re planning “on turning into a speakeasy style bar”.
As well as a huge farmhouse extension, which Emma added she had “no idea how we’re going to paint”.
