AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin's 101° high temperature on Sunday was a record breaker in more ways than one.

In fact, the high set three individual heat records. Here's a look at the different ways Sunday will go down in the record books.

Hottest Oct. 13 ever

First and foremost, 101° is a new record high for the calendar day Oct. 13. The previous record was 97°, set in 1991.

Hottest October day ever

Not only was 101° a new record high for Oct. 13 — it was the hottest October day ever recorded in Austin, with data available back to the 1890s.

Austin has hit 100° only twice before in October - on Oct. 2, 1923, and Oct. 2, 1938.

Latest 100° day on record

Oct. 13 is now also the latest calendar date to ever hit 100°. The previous record was Oct. 2. The new record is 44 days past the average last triple-digit day in Austin, which is Aug. 30.

Temperatures for Monday and Tuesday will remain in the upper 90s with sunny skies, but heat relief is on the way. A cold front, expected to arrive late Tuesday, will bring highs in the 70s Wednesday afternoon and lows in the 50s Thursday morning.
