NLCS Game 2: Mets vs. Dodgers game thread
A day after the Los Angeles Dodgers demolished the New York Mets in 9-0 victory, the two teams are back at Dodgers Stadium to meet for Game 2 of the NLCS. In spite of the Dodgers’ rough injury luck in their rotation, they got a stellar performance out of trade deadline acquisition Jack Flaherty, who threw 7 innings of shutout ball against Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, and the rest of the Mets lineup. Following that up, LA will be going with another bullpen game, opening with righty Ryan Brasier.
On the offensive end, the Dodgers only needed one extra-base hit — an eight-inning double from Mookie Betts — to score their 9 runs, the rest coming from a flurry of singles and walks. They’d surely take that again but they’ll definitely be looking to execute a more power-driven approach to the plate for Game 2. The only new name in today’s lineup is Andy Pages, who’ll be taking Gavin Lux’s slot.

Over on New York’s end, they’ll definitely be hoping for a big bounce back from last night’s lackluster effort. They’ll be in good hands as former Oakland Athletic Sean Manaea will be taking the hump following a seven-inning gem of his own. Though he faltered late against the Philadelphia Phillies, he had a two-hit shutout going into the eighth inning and walked off to a standing ovation, giving A’s fans fuzzy feelings as it flashed us back to his 2018 no-hitter against the Boston Red Sox.
In spite of a scoreless night on offense, the Mets are going with the same guys one through nine tonight, hoping some adjustments at the plate and a stable of new opponents will spark enough rallies to even up the series.
