Biden warns Iran that any attempt to kill Trump will be considered an act of war: Fox News
Fox News reported on Monday, citing its sources, that U.S. President Joe Biden has instructed his National Security Council to clearly warn Iran that any attempt to assassinate former President Donald Trump would be considered an act of war.
This warning follows the thwarting of a possible third assassination attempt on Trump by U.S. police on Saturday.
Iran has repeatedly threatened to target senior Trump administration officials for their involvement in the 2020 killing of Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Quds Force.
Politico reported this week that U.S. intelligence officials informed Trump’s campaign last month about death threats from Iran.
Trump’s campaign stated they had been warned that the threat “has increased in recent months.”
This briefing came after two unsuccessful assassination attempts on Trump earlier this summer, although no evidence has been provided linking these attempts to Tehran.
According to Politico, 12 officials familiar with Iran’s threats said that the country’s efforts to assassinate Trump and other former U.S. officials involved in Soleimani’s death are more aggressive and extensive than previously reported.
Following these reports, security measures for Donald Trump and key figures from his administration, such as former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former CENTCOM Commander Kenneth McKenzie, have been heightened.
The increasing threats from Iran have raised concerns within the U.S. government, prompting the Biden administration to take these threats seriously. The U.S. has emphasized that any attack on American citizens, including former officials, would result in severe consequences for Iran, underscoring the heightened tensions between the two nations.
