PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The man accused of killing Melissa Jubane in September appeared in a Washington County court Tuesday for a status check on the next steps in the case.

Bryce Schubert faces first-degree murder, kidnapping and abuse of a corpse charges, which he pled not guilty to last month.

Jubane, who had just been married days before, was first reported missing on Sept. 4 after missing her shift as a nurse at Providence St. Vincent Hospital. She was found dead two days later, according to police.

Police say in the course of their search for Jubane, Schubert, Jubane's 27-year-old neighbor at a Beaverton apartment complex, was quickly linked to her death by authorities and taken into custody. However, court documents related to the ongoing investigation are still sealed.

According to a spokesperson from Providence, Schubert briefly worked at Providence Portland Medical Center; however, he was never employed at the same location as Jubane.
