Trump Turned His Town Hall Into a Bizarre DJ Set
You know how sometimes you want to keep the party going after a big night out, so everyone comes to your apartment and you all take turns playing music videos for hours? The most bizarre version of that is what Donald Trump’s town hall turned into last night. The former president was supposed to take questions from the crowd in Oaks, Pennsylvania, and instead the night devolved into him playing his favorite songs for the crowd.
The evening was moderated by South Dakota governor Kristi Noem (of dog-killing fame) and quickly went off the rails when two people required medical attention, one right after the other. Per the Washington Post, Trump requested a tune after the first person fainted.
“While we’re waiting. So we had a beautiful evening. And I don’t know if they could get this song up quickly, but if they could work really quickly backstage while we’re waiting. ‘Ave Maria,’” Trump said before the song began to play. Attendees were treated to another spin of the classic track when a second attendee required medical attention. The song played a third time while Trump was discussing a chart about immigration statistics.
“My all-time favorite chart. And let’s listen to Pavarotti sing ‘Ave Maria.’ They gave me the ‘Ave Maria’ with no voice,” Trump reportedly told the crowd. From there, it seems that the evening turned into a DJ set for the former president. “How about a couple real beauties and we’ll sit down and relax,” Trump asked his staffers. James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” Sinéad O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” and the Village People’s “YMCA” were all in the queue.
The New York Times reported that Trump’s musical interlude lasted about half an hour, while the Washington Post put it closer to 39 minutes. Either way, it doesn’t sound like the most fun way to spend a Monday night. He wasn’t even dancing; he just sort of swayed to the music. Kamala Harris’s campaign shared a video of him shifting his weight around while listening to “Time to Say Goodbye,” by Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli.

The vice-president tweeted the video and wrote, “Hope he’s okay.”
Trump’s campaign manager, Steven Cheung, took a different perspective.
Total lovefest at the PA townhall! Everyone was so excited they were fainting so @realDonaldTrump turned to music. Nobody wanted to leave and wanted to hear more songs from the famous DJT Spotify playlist!

According to reports, the night ended with Trump exiting to the one song that always puts a smile on his face. That song, of course, is “Memory” from the musical Cats.
