A court was told he abused his position of quartermaster sergeant by intending to make a personal gain of £900,000.

His offending took place from December 2021 to October 2022 at the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers barracks in Tidworth, Wiltshire.

The married father of three admitted fraud at Salisbury crown court.

Judge Richard Parkes KC yesterday described the case as “very curious” and said the “court will need to know more” before sentencing on December 13.

The court heard Charlot and his family are currently being evicted from his Army accommodation in Tidworth as a result of his crime.

Mary Cowe, representing him, said Charlot is “a man of good character”.

She added: “He accepts the criminality on a full facts basis.”

Judge Parkes released Charlot on bail but warned him: “You know that you’re going to prison.”
