Young Reds lighting up the Merchiston Festival
We had a few Young Reds playing at Merchiston Festival last weekend. Alfie Muir and Lewis McGill (pictured) were representing Edinburgh Reivers (a mixed side from the Edinburgh and East Lothian & Borders Academies), who won 5 of their 6 games over the weekend (including some famous rugby schools like Dulwich College) and went on to win the Bowl final against Norwich.
Calum Hall answered a request for volunteers and turned out for Scarborough College and it won’t surprise followers of the Reds U18s to learn that he ended up top scorer for them.
The festival featured 16 teams from across the UK in XV-a-side format of 20 minute games. It was fast and furious and there was some great rugby on show, especially on Sunday when the sun came out.
Merchiston won their own tournament for the second year in a row, with a nail-biting last-kick of the game win over Glasgow Caledonia Reds.
