Richarlison’s special rehab process has him fit, trimmed down, and ready to play
After weeks on the sidelines, it seems Richarlison is ready and raring to go again. In his latest press conference, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou explained the process the striker has taken to get back to full fitness.
Richarlison’s long road to recovery
Richarlison‘s time at Tottenham has been plagued by injuries, meaning the forward has never quite been able to build any momentum with his performances.
The Brazilian missed the end of last season, was in rehabilitation through the summer, and made it two games into the current season before pulling up with another issue.
Richarlison has now been out of action for six weeks due to a calf injury, but was back in training this week, and Ange Postecoglou has confirmed he is ready to return to the matchday squad for the visit of West Ham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend.
It has taken a long time — perhaps longer than most expected — for Richarlison to get his fitness levels back to the standard needed, but having him back in the squad will be a big boost for Postecoglou and means Dominic Solanke can have the competition and cover he needs in attack.
Spurs took their time with Richarlison
The reason behind his recovery process taking so long is simple, according to Ange Postecoglou, who told the press today (via Football.London) that the club were taking extra precautions with Richarlison’s rehab.
He said: “We’ve taken our time with Richy and we have taken time to build his fitness base up. He has worked hard, trimmed down and looks lean now. He’s good to go now.”
A comeback to savour
Richarlison may not be the most important player in the Spurs squad, but his return can have a huge impact. If he can stay fit, he will help to push Solanke throughout the season, and he offers something different from the bench that can help Postecoglou change games when needed.
