Spruce Kings Drop Shootout to Chiefs
The Prince George Spruce Kings dropped a 3-2 decision to the Chilliwack Chiefs in a shootout on Saturday night at Kopar Memorial Arena.
Brogan McNeil scored his first of the season the power play to open the scoring from Skogen Schrott and Brock Cummings at 6:25.
Brady Milburn responded for the Chiefs at 13:36 as they capitalized on a 5 on 3 power play with Olivier Beaulieu and Dakota MacIntosh.
The only goal in the middle frame was the Chiefs’ Mateo Mrsic who’s wrister fooled Carter Wishart to make it 2-1.
The Spruce Kings couldn’t capitalize on a 5 on 3 in the third period but moments after, Carter Hesselgrave poked one over the goal line to tie the game at 2. Kazumo Sasaki and Evan Bellamy drew the assists on Hesselgrave’s first of the season.
There were two very brief power plays in overtime and a stint of 4 on 4, but neither team could find the back of the net.
In the shootout, McIntosh scored for the Chiefs and Ethan Montroy scored for the Spruce Kings in the opening 3-player shootout. In the second round of sudden death shooters, after Lucas Veilleux missed the net, Caleb Elfering ended the game tucking one around Wishart.
