Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns in blockbuster clash after Carling Knockout Cup draw

Following the fireworks in their Betway Premiership match earlier this season, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns will again lock horns after they were drawn to face each other in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup.

Both Chiefs and Sundowns had a rather easy passage into the last eight, with Amakhosi running out comfortable 4-0 winners over 10 men SuperSport United, while Sundowns blew Golden Arrows off the park in a clinical 5-0 win.

The previous meeting between the two teams was filled with drama and controversy, as defending league champions Sundowns ran out 2-1 winners on the day at the FNB Stadium.

Chiefs were unseeded when the draw was conducted, because they finished outside of the top eight last season. This is why they ended up being drawn with Sundowns in the next round.

Magesi FC, who caused the shock of the last 16 when they beat Orlando Pirates 3-2 away from home at Orlando Stadium, will travel to TS Galaxy for their quarter-final clash.

TS Galaxy got over in the line in extra time against Chippa United on Sunday after finishing the game with nine players on the field following two red card in extra time.

Defending champions Stellenbosch FC will come up against Marumo Gallants, who went on to win a thrilling match against Polokwane City on Saturday.

On Fridsay night, Stellenbosch FC got over their MTN8 final disappointment with a 2-1 over an AmaZulu outfit that is yet to register a win in any competition this season.

Cape Town City FC will travel to Richards Bay for their quarter-final clash after they demolished the hapless Royal AM on Saturday.

Richards Bay beat Sekhukhune United 1-0 on Sunday to book their spot in the next round.
