SIR Keir Starmer will today vow “better days are ahead” as he promises to protect working Brits from the worst Budget pain.
The PM will challenge critics to find a better way to boost growth and fix Britain’s foundations.
In a speech in the West Midlands, Sir Keir will warn the Government must “run towards tough decisions” on tax and spending.
But he will add that splashing cash on major infrastructure projects will clear the path for long-term growth.
Sir Keir will say: “If people want to criticise the path we choose, that’s their prerogative. But let them then spell out a different direction.
“It’s working people who pay the price when their government fails to deliver economic stability.
“We choose a different path — honest, responsible, long-term decisions in the interests of working people.”
Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ Budget on Wednesday is likely to see inheritance and capital gains tax go up, alongside a two per cent rise on National Insurance paid by employers.
Income tax thresholds will be held beyond 2028, while duties on beer and vapes are set to rise.
But dozens of MPs want Ms Reeves to steer clear of raising fuel duty following a 14-year campaign by The Sun to keep it frozen.
Yesterday Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson promised working people will not see higher taxes “on their payslip”.
But she deepened a row by refusing to clarify if small business owners making a profit of £13,000 a year are in that category.
