IPL 2025: Lucknow Super Giants finalise retentions, NO place for KL Rahul, Rs 510000000 to be deducted…

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have finalised their list of retained played ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction set to take place next month. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have given all the 10 teams till October 31 to announce their retained players ahead of the auction.

On expected lines, LSG have decided not to retain their current skipper KL Rahul, who is now become one of the big names to head into the mega auction. The five players retained by Sanjiv Goenka-owned LSG are West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran, pacer Mayank Yadav, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi and uncapped duo of Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo website.

KL Rahul, who has led the franchise since their inception back in 2022 and led them to back-to-back Playoff appearances, will be on the hunt for a new IPL team. With five players getting retained, LSG will only have on ‘Right-to-Match’ (RTM) card available for the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The report didn’t mention how much will be the salary of the five retained players but looking at the retention slots, at least Rs 51 crore out of LSG’s total auction purse of Rs 120 crore will be deducted. The biggest gainer for LSG will be Delhi pacer Mayank Yadav, who made his T20I debut against Bangladesh earlier this month.

Mayank’s salary is set to sky-rocket from Rs 20 lakh to at least Rs 14 crore. Since Mohsin Khan and Delhi’s Ayush Badoni are both ‘uncapped’, they will likely be retained for Rs 4 crore each, according to BCCI regulations.

West Indian Nicholas Pooran is set to LSG’s costliest retentions at Rs 18 crore. Pooran’s current salary was Rs 16 crore and he deserves the Rs 2 crore that he is set to receive.

The wicketkeeper-batter started with a salary of Rs 30 lakhs in IPL 2017 with Mumbai Indians. A couple of years later, Punjab Kings (PBKS) bought him for Rs4.2 crore while at the IPL 2022 meg auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad bid Rs 10.75 crore for him.

Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi was one of the three players picked by LSG before the IPL 2022 mega auction for Rs 4 crore as he was an uncapped player back then. In IPL 2022, Bishnoi claimed 13 wickets while in IPL 2023, he scalped 16 wickets but in IPL 2024 he managed only 10 wickets.
