Kia Tigers beat Samsung Lions in five games to win 2024 Korean Series
The Kia Tigers defeated the Samsung Lions in five games to win the 2024 Korean Series.
The Tigers clinched the title with a 7-5 win on home turf in front of a sell-out crowd of 19,300 at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field to clinch the seven-games series 4-1.
in Game Five, the Lions took an early lead against veteran starter Hyeon-jong Yang. Cleanup hitter and former Major League Baseball (MLB) player Lewin Diaz hit two-run homers in consecutive at-bats. The Dominican slugger had already hit home runs in consecutive at-bats during this postseason, establishing a record in KBO history.
Young-Chul Kim added a solo shot. He became the youngest player to homer in the Korean Series at 21 years, two months and four days.
The Tigers started their comeback with a home run by Hyung-Woo Choi, who became the oldest player to homer in the Korean Series at 40 years, one month and 25 days.
The Tigers' bullpen blanked the Lions lineup posting 6.1 shutout innings. Tae-gun Kim batted in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth with an infield single.

Game One of the Korean Series was suspended on Monday, 21 October with the Lions leading 1-0 in the top of the sixth. As the game resumed on Wednesday, October 23, the Tigers came back to win the opener, 5-1, and went on to win Game Two the same day.
The only Lions win came on four solo home runs on October 25.
The Tigers celebrated their 12th league title. They have participated in 12 Korean Series out of 42 and won all the series. They had clinched a Korean Series title at home only once previously in 1987, again against the Lions. They became the only franchise to win across five decades: 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s.
All games of the Korean Series were sold out. The total number of fans exceeded 152,000.
