Afghanistan launches 4th round of Polio Vaccination campaign
The Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan has announced the launch of the fourth round of a polio vaccination campaign in collaboration with international agencies across 16 provinces.
In a statement released on Monday, October 28, the Ministry reported that more than 6.2 million children under the age of five will receive polio vaccines during this campaign.
According to the press release, the Acting Minister of Public Health reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to eradicating wild poliovirus in Afghanistan with the support of its partners. He once again urged religious scholars, community leaders, and citizens to cooperate in this vital effort.
The fourth round of the polio vaccination campaign will continue from October 28 to October 30 in the southern, southeastern, eastern, western, and northeastern regions of the country, as stated by the Ministry.
This round of the polio vaccination campaign began after nearly a two-month delay. Afghanistan and Pakistan remain the only two countries where polio has not been completely eradicated and continues to affect children.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 18 positive cases of polio have been recorded in Afghanistan so far this year.
The continued vaccination efforts emphasize the need for coordinated action and public support to protect vulnerable children from the lasting effects of this preventable disease.
