Jon Stewart to remain as ‘The Daily Show’ host through 2025

Jon Stewart is sticking with “The Daily Show” after the presidential election.

On Monday, Paramount and Comedy Central announced that Stewart plans to continue as a weekly host of the Emmy Award-winning late-night series through the end of 2025.

“Jon’s incisive intellect and sharp wit make him one of the most important voices in political and cultural commentary today,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, in a press release. “His ability to cut through the noise and deliver clear-eyed insights is exactly what we need which is why we are thrilled to have him leading ‘The Daily Show’ for another year.”

“I’ve truly enjoyed being back working with the incredible team at ‘The Daily Show’ and Comedy Central. I was really hoping they’d allow me to do every other Monday, but I’ll just have to suck it up…,” added Stewart with his signature humor.

Stewart left “The Daily Show” in 2015, after which Trevor Noah took over as host. When Noah left, a series of guest hosts and correspondents sat behind the desk but a permanent replacement was never officially named. In January, Comedy Central revealed Stewart would return as host – but just for one day per week and only through the election. (The other episodes are hosted by “The Daily Show” correspondents.)

“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” McCarthy said at the time. “In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”

Stewart has won 23 Primetime Emmy Awards in his career – including 10 consecutive Best Variety Series honors for “The Daily Show” from 2003 through 2012. Upon his return as the headliner host of “The Daily Show” this year, Stewart won for the late-night series again. “The Daily Show” won the Best Variety Talk Series at this year’s Emmy Awards.

“This is remarkable, to have an opportunity to work with this incredibly talented group, has really made my Mondays,” Stewart said at the ceremony in September after beating shows hosted by his friend Stephen Colbert and late-night favorites Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Meyers.
