2.7 magnitude earthquake felt in parts of eastern Oklahoma
QUINTON, Okla. (KNWA/KFTA) — Residents across eastern Oklahoma reported feeling an earthquake early Monday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
USGS reported a 2.7 magnitude quake around 12:23 a.m. near Quinton in Pittsburg County.
More than 250 across the eastern part of the state have reported feeling the earthquake.
The reports have come from Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Owasso, Braggs, Fort Gibson, McAlester, Tuskahoma and Taloga. USGS also reported that 25 people had felt the earthquake in Brickeys, Ark., nearly 300 miles from the epicenter.
Since the start of 2024, USGS said 55 earthquakes of 2.5 magnitude or higher have been reported in Oklahoma, including a 5.1 magnitude earthquake in February in Prague.
This is the second in Quinton this year, as a 2.9 magnitude quake was reported on August 14.
