HHHS of Topeka builds cat shelters ahead of winter

0

TOPEKA (KTMJ) - The Topeka community is helping hundreds of outdoor cat stay warm this winter.

The Helping Hands Humane Society (HHHS) has built nearly 200 warming shelters for local stray and feral cats. The shelters are made with Styrofoam and straw padding to help give cats a warm and safe place to retreat during the winter months.

“We really need to exist for those animals who have nowhere else to go," Grace Clinton with the HHHS said. "There are thousands of free-roaming cats in the city of Topeka who deserve to stay right where they are at. In turn, instead of bringing them to the shelter, what we want to do is make sure they have places they can stop, take a rest, they can get warm."

If you have a colony of stray cats near you, the HHHS says you can come pick up a shelter for this winter.

For more information on HHHS, click here. HHHS is open Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and open Sundays from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The HHHS of Topeka can be found at 5720 SW 21st Street.
