One killed, two hospitalized in Saturday crash on I-49 in Opelousas
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- One person has died and two others remain hospitalized after a crash on I-49 in Opelousas Saturday night, authorities said.
Opelousas Police responded at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday to a serious vehicle crash on southbound I-49 near the Judson Walsh Exit. Investigators said a truck traveling northbound on I-49 left the roadway, crossed through the median and continued into the southbound lanes. While traveling across the southbound lanes, the truck was struck on its passenger side by an SUV, authorities said.
Both drivers and one passenger were taken to a local hospital. The passenger in the SUV later died at the hospital. The driver of the truck sustained critical injuries, and the driver of the SUV is reported to be in stable condition.
The identity of the person killed is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, officials said.
This incident remains under investigation by the Opelousas Police Department. No further details are available at this time.
