'Hundreds of ballots lost' after drop boxes seen burning in blue states

Hundreds of completed ballots were reportedly lost in Vancouver, Washington, after smoke was seen billowing out of a ballot drop box.

A photographer from KATU was on the scene to capture images of the smoking drop-off box.

Within 30 minutes, police had cordoned off the area and removed a pile of smoking ballots, the news outlet reported.

"The Clark County auditor told us that the last ballot pickup at that location was 8 a.m. Sunday," KATU said. "Hundreds of ballots were inside at the time of the burning, and KATU was told there are maybe only a few that can be saved."

Voters who dropped off ballots at Fisher's Landing Transit Center near Southeast 162nd Avenue over the weekend were asked to immediately contact the Election Auditor's Office for a new ballot.

A Portland, Oregon, ballot drop box was said to have been reported on fire just hours earlier. Investigators blamed an incendiary device set off inside the box.

The incident was being investigated as arson.
