Suspect in 1973 Marin murder delays plea
A suspect recently charged with murdering a San Rafael woman in 1973 made his first appearance in Marin County Superior Court on Monday.
Michael Eugene Mullen, 75, participated in the hearing by teleconference call from the Marin County Jail because he uses a wheelchair. Judge Geoffrey Howard accepted a request from Mullen’s attorney, Peter Kuykendall, to schedule the defendant’s entry of plea on Dec. 6.
Mullen was arrested in August after Marin County sheriff’s detectives used DNA evidence to connect him to the death of Nina Fischer. The 31-year-old victim was found bound and fatally shot at her home on Point San Pedro Road. Mullen used to live in Sonoma County.
Authorities kept Mullen in custody in Idaho before he was extradited to Marin County on Thursday.
