National manager thinks 25-year-old is good enough to play for Spurs

Denmark head coach Brian Riemer claims that one of his players, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham, has the qualities to shine for a top club like Spurs.

The player in question is Morten Hjulmand, whose reputation has skyrocketed since his move to Sporting Lisbon last year.

The defensive midfielder is now one of the first names on the teamsheet for the Portuguese club as well as the Denmark national side, and he is thought to be on the radar of several Premier League sides.

In fact, it was reported in the summer that both Spurs and Man Utd had sent scouts to watch him in action in Euro 2024, with a view to making an approach for the player (Record (via SportWitness).

Brian Riemer’s confident prediction

Riemer knows a thing or two about what it takes to succeed in England, having previously served as an assistant to Thomas Frank at Brentford.

The 46-year-old has no doubts that Hjulmand is good enough to play for a club at the top end of the Premier League, particularly given the midfielder’s leadership qualities.

The newly appointed Denmark boss told O Jogo (via Sport Witness): “I spent two years in the Premier League and I think he has the necessary qualities to play for the six/seven best clubs in the English league.

“Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City… At a certain point in his career, I believe he will arrive at one of these teams.

“His character, his leadership, his personality, his communication are not very common in today’s football, and I was at many clubs, in Copenhagen, Brentford, and Anderlecht.

“It reminds us of the defensive midfielders of the past, who controlled the entire game, who led the teams, you don’t see that much nowadays. It’s something rare that Hjulmand has. I’m a big fan of his, I think we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg with Hjulmand.”

Morten Hjulmand not likely to be a priority for Spurs

While Tottenham might be on the lookout for an addition in the middle of the park, one doubts if Hjulmand would be on the top of their wishlist.

Sporting tend to drive a hard bargain and with the player contracted to the club until 2028, he is likely to cost a fortune.

Besides, the Dane is not a particularly great tactical fit for Ange Posteocglou’s system as his technical ability on the ball is not his strongest suit.
