IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- The Iberia Parish Medical Center is celebrating its restoration after it was devastated by a tornado in 2022.

CEO Dionne Viator said it was a team effort to rebuild.

"It took the entire community to help rebuild. But especially with our employees, our physicians, everybody who went through so much on that day and others to just kind of get closure and celebrate," Viator said.

In December 2022, a tornado caused severe damage in several areas in Iberia Parish. The main campus of Iberia Parish Medical was one of the worst spots hit. Windows were shattered and other interior damage was caused.

But after hard work and dedication, the medical center came back better than before, according to the medical center's Vice President of Outpatient Operations, Jacob Freyou.

"It rolled out to be right at $10 million, and we were fully insured. Some places don't recover from things like this not only did we recover, we are better than we were before," Freyou said.

The hospital was still in operation with full medical compliance. Viator said the rededication ceremony was put on to thank everyone who made this possible.

"This was a community coming together. We had the Cajun Navy bring dinner that night for our staff. I mean, so many different pieces. This is a thank you for the blessings that we've had and the beginning of a new era."
