New holiday celebrates Austin, Travis County wildlife protection efforts

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Nov. 2 was recently declared “Austin Wildlife Rescue Day” in Austin and Travis County to celebrate local efforts to protect wildlife, according to Austin Wildlife Rescue (AWR).

The day was dedicated to AWR’s nearly 50 years of dedication to rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing injured and orphaned wild animals in Central Texas.

Both the Austin City Council and Travis County Commissioners Court made the proclamation for the new holiday.

“Receiving these proclamations from both the city and the county is an incredible honor,” said Jules Maron, Executive Director of Austin Wildlife Rescue. “It reflects our community’s shared commitment to protecting wildlife and fostering an appreciation for the diverse species that call Central Texas home. We hope Austin Wildlife Rescue Day will inspire more people to get involved and support our mission.”
