After the Buzzer – Vipers Drop Tough Overtime Battle to Grizzlies, 2-1

0

Vernon, BC:  The Vipers put forth an impressive effort on Wednesday night at Kal Tire Place, controlling much of the action through 40 minutes and often outshooting the Victoria Grizzlies. However, despite the Vipers’ intensity, they ultimately fell in overtime for the third time this season, losing 2-1.

Simon Binkley provided the lone goal for the Vipers, marking his first career tally in the BCHL. Assists went to Jakub Galnor and George Stavrianeas, who helped set up the play. In net, Marko Bilic had a solid performance, stopping 22 of 24 shots and keeping the game close. The Grizzlies’ Chase Pirtle scored in regulation, while Jacksenn Hungle notched the game-winner on a power play in the extra frame.

Victoria’s goalie, Oliver Auyeung-Ashton, was named the game’s first star after a stellar performance, making 31 saves on 32 shots and keeping the Vipers at bay throughout the night.

The Vipers are back in action Friday night at Kal Tire Place as they host the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, aiming to bounce back and pick up a win in front of the home crowd.
