DARTS WOMEN BACK TO WINNING WAYS!

Match Report: Sport London E Benfica FC 1-4 Dartford FC

London and SouthEast Regional League Premier Division, played on Sunday 27th October 2024.

Team: Jade Charlton, Georgie Davis, Abbey Davies, Lizzie Adams, Amy Russ, Xayla- Rae Alberts, Brionne Fowle, Gabby Howell, Beth Powell, Emily Vaughan, Emily Woodhouse.

Subs: Chana Hinds, Shauni Griffiths, Neve Connor, Poppy Payne, Ellie Dolby.

Following last weekend’s draw with Ebbsfleet Utd, Darts were back on the road as we headed west to take on Sport London E Benfica.

Darts headed into this one winless in our last two games and wanted to put that right with victory in this contest.

Darts began the game brightly and the early dominance paid off as Darts took an early lead. In the 2nd minute, a deep cross from the right from Abbey Davies bypassed everybody in the box and found the far corner of the goal to put us ahead.

Darts continued to dominate the early exchanges and went close to doubling the lead. In the 12th minute, an effort from distance from Emily Vaughan looked in, but came back off the underside of the crossbar.

As the half went on, Darts continued to create chances and went close again to doubling our advantage on the stroke of half time. In the 45th minute, a good pass from Lizzie Adams found Amy Russ inside the Benfica box. The Darts forward turned the defender and shot towards goal, forcing a good save from the Benfica goalkeeper.

The second half began and Darts doubled their lead within the first five minutes. In the 50th minute, a corner from the left found Amy Russ free in the 6yd box and the Darts forward poked the ball beyond the keeper to put us 2 goals to the good.

We continued to create chances and got the third goal five minutes later. In the 55th minute, a great cross from Brionne Fowle found Amy Russ in space. The Darts forward controlled well to find Emily Vaughan in the 18yd box, who found the far corner and the Darts were 3-0 ahead before the hour mark.

The home side continued to play and create chances and were rewarded just before the hour. In the 58th minute, a loose pass from the Darts midfield was intercepted by the Benfica forward, who went through on goal and finished smartly to beat the Darts keeper.

Darts went in search of goal number four and it came our way in the final ten minutes. In the 82nd minute, a great through ball from Amy Russ put Ellie Dolby through on goal, who finished well from a tight angle to seal all three points for the visitors.
