After the Buzzer – Vipers Outshoot but Fall Short to Silverbacks in 3-0 Loss

0

Vernon, BC:  Despite a strong performance and controlling play for the majority of the game, the Vernon Vipers fell short in a 3-0 loss to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, largely due to the outstanding goaltending of Andrew Ballantyne. The Silverbacks’ netminder was the difference-maker, turning away 44 shots to earn the shutout.

The Vipers came out firing in the first period, outshooting Salmon Arm 19-7. They applied heavy pressure and peppered Ballantyne with quality scoring chances, including a highlight-reel scramble save that kept the game scoreless.

In the second period, the Vipers maintained their intensity, outshooting the Silverbacks 18-11. However, it was Salmon Arm who broke the deadlock when Patrick Raftery pushed the puck—and possibly the Vipers’ goalie—over the line. After a review, the goal stood, giving Raftery his fourth of the season.

The Silverbacks extended their lead in the third period with a goal from Liam Beamish, followed by an empty-netter from Liam Bursaw to seal the win. The final shots were 44-37 in favor of Vernon.

The Vipers will look to bring the same energy—and hopefully find some puck luck—as they head to West Kelowna tomorrow night to face the Warriors.
