Uzbekistan and EU representatives hold talks on humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Ismatulla Irgashev, the country’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, and Terhi Hakala, the European Union’s Representative for Central Asia, met for discussions.

According to a statement released on Friday, November 1, the Uzbek and EU representatives discussed the current situation in Afghanistan, sharing insights and strategies.

The statement noted that Irgashev and Hakala emphasized the importance of joint efforts to prevent a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

Terhi Hakala expressed appreciation for Uzbekistan’s efforts to establish a unified regional stance on Afghanistan and to support long-term peace and stability in the country.

It is noteworthy that last week, Ismatulla Irgashev also met with Nico Schermers, the Special Envoy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Astana.

Uzbekistan and the European Union’s focus on preventing a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan comes amid rising poverty and unemployment over the past three years, which has intensified international concerns about the need for humanitarian assistance.

The collaborative efforts by Uzbekistan and the EU reflect a proactive approach to stabilizing Afghanistan, highlighting the urgency of coordinated regional and international support.
