BBC pundit urges Amorim to tell Man Utd hero to leave the club once he arrives

BBC pundit Troy Deeney has urged incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim not to include Ruud van Nistelrooy in his backroom staff after he takes over on November 11.

The Dutchman was placed in interim charge of the Red Devils after Erik ten Hag was sacked on Monday, and he helped them secure a place in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup following a 5-2 win over Leicester City on Wednesday.

Van Nistelrooy has admitted that he would love to stay on as part of the coaching staff at Man United after Amorim takes over, but Deeney has advised against it.

“My one bit of advice to Ruben? Don’t keep Ruud on,” he told the Sun.

“You want to clear the decks once you are there, with only your people around you.

“Only then can you figure out what the problems are — and how to solve them.”

Man United players are reportedly desperate for Van Nistelrooy to be included as part of the new backroom staff, having established a strong bond with him upon his arrival in the summer.

They see him as easier to talk to, given that he once played for the club and knows exactly what players go through.

However, it is unknown if Amorim plans to hold on to the former striker, but he is bringing his backroom staff to the Old Trafford club.

As a result, there may not be room for the Man United hero in his plans, and it will be unsurprising if he departs once Amorim arrives.

The 39-year-old has worked with his coaching team for a while, and involving an outsider in the set-up will likely be the last thing on his mind.
