Local musicians unite in Grandview to aid Hurricane Helene victims
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- On Saturday, local musicians came together at Natalie's in Grandview to give back to those affected by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.
Organizer Tom Boyer said there was no other choice but to help those in need.
“When you're watching people help each other in disasters, nobody's asking anybody, you know, they're voting for, they are helping each other,” Boyer said. “Our music is the great equalizer. Everybody loves it, It means so much to the heart and it's just a unifier.”
This benefit concert held by local artists is trying to support those in the Asheville community. All the money raised at the event will be donated to several organizations providing food, supplies, and water. Guitar house workshop owner, John Bolzenius expects it to make a difference in some people's lives.
"I just hope it helps,” Bolzenius said. “I mean, they just need basic necessities like water. It would be unimaginable. We're really not affected by that here in this in this town. So, I just hope they put it to good use for their community."
One of the main charities is helping artists affected by the storm, with some of them being musicians who have lost their livelihood. It makes the extending of this helping hand even more profound because artists here are giving back to other artists miles away. And they want everyone to be motivated to do the same thing.
“Continue to look at the folks down there who are desperately in need of instruments and everything else, water, anything they need, personal items just inspire other people to give,” Boyer said.
