Sheila Chepkirui Wins NYC Marathon Women’s Race in Adidas Super Shoe

Sheila Chepkirui turned in a super performance and won the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon women’s race on Sunday in the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4 super shoe.

The Kenyan runner — who competed in her first-ever NYC Marathon — finished in 2:24:35, besting fellow Kenyan Hellen Obiri, who won in 2023.

Adidas launched the Adios Pro Evo 1 just over a year ago, a few days after Adidas athlete Tigst Assefa wore it while setting the women’s marathon world record at the Berlin Marathon. (The record was the broken again at this year’s Chicago Marathon.) 11 total marathon runners have since worn the shoe for their races, including men’s runner Sisay Lemma at the 2024 Boston Marathon.

In the lead-up to this year’s Berlin Marathon, Adidas introduced the Adizero Adios Pro 4, which was informed by learnings from the Pro Evo 1.

Obiri came in second in On’s Cloudboom Strike LS sneaker.

This summer, On revealed LightSpray, its latest upper technology created through a fully automated production process that has sustainably at the forefront.

More than 50,000 runners from around the world are participating in the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon. Olympic gold medalist and New Balance star Gabby Thomas, who appeared on FN’s November 2023 cover, is serving as grand marshal for the race.
