5 things to know this Election Day

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Happy Election Day! Meteorologist Matt Mackie says temperatures will hit close to the 70-degree mark with sunshine after lunchtime.

As your local election headquarters, NEWS10 has a Capital Region general election voter's guide. Also, CDTA is offering free rides to the polls this Tuesday. These stories, and more, are in your five things to know this Election Day.

1. 2024 Capital Region general election voter’s guide

The United States general election is set for Tuesday, November 5. The Capital Region will not only be voting for who they want to be President, but will be voting in several other notable local races, as well as one statewide ballot proposal.

2. Election Day reminders

According to the New York State Board of Elections unofficial count, nearly 3 million New Yorkers have already cast their ballots. Polls open at 6 a.m. on Tuesday and close at 9 p.m.  

3. CDTA offers free rides to polls for 2024 election day

On Tuesday, voters in Albany can catch a free lift to the polls through Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) buses. All regular routes and Bus Rapid Transit Services are participating, and all riders need to do is tell the bus driver they are going to vote.

4. Boeing machinists vote to end strike after 53 days

Boeing machinists voted Monday to end a strike that has hobbled the company for the past 53 days.

5. Ex-Albany Police Chief Brendan Cox named interim chief

The changing of the guard, back to the old guard. In a news conference on Monday, outgoing Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins and Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan announced that Brendan Cox would return to serve as interim chief. Cox had stepped down as Chief in January 2017.
