DeAndre Hopkins Uses Tom Brady-Randy Moss To Describe Chiefs’ Trade

The Kansas City Chiefs already saw the value of trading for veteran talent with the acquisition of DeAndre Hopkins. It’s a move that boosted the New England Patriots nearly two decades ago.

New England acquired Randy Moss from the Oakland Raiders before the 2007 season for a fourth-round draft pick. Moss transformed the potential of quarterback Tom Brady, who threw 50 touchdowns that season. Moss caught 23 of those, and the Patriots went undefeated before they fell to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII.

The Chiefs are undefeated to start 2024 and made the midseason move to get Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans. After two catches in his team debut, Hopkins turned it up Monday night, hauling in eight passes for 86 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Kansas City’s overtime win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Hopkins responded after his performance Tuesday when he posted a picture of Brady and Moss from their Patriots days on X.

There are some areas of crossover in this comparison: Like Brady with Moss, quarterback Patrick Mahomes already had three Super Bowl titles upon Hopkins’ arrival. The teams also both started 8-0 (and counting for Kansas City) with championship expectations.

Will the Chiefs have a similar fate as the 2007 Patriots or will they become the first NFL team to three-peat?
