Patriots ‘Received Calls’ On These Players Before Trade Deadline

The Patriots didn’t make a move on NFL trade deadline day, but they were trying.

New England reportedly wanted to add depth at key positions while also aiming to deal away veterans who could help a contender or offload players on expiring deals. Eliot Wolf failed in those reported goals, but there did seem to be something going on in the front office.

The Patriots “received calls” on Davon Godchaux, Kyle Dugger K.J. Osborn and Kendrick Bourne on Tuesday, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. The only move the Wolf and his staff ended up making during deadline season was sending Joshua Uche to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2026 sixth-round pick.

New England fans and pundits will be disappointed in the executive vice president of player personnel. The Patriots weren’t suddenly going to get great, but the dysfunction in the wide receiver room led to speculation that someone would be moved to satisfy multiple parties.

Head coach Jerod Mayo and the coaching staff will need to manage the personalities in the locker room for the rest of the season. Fans will need to wait until the offseason for the Patriots to make a significant move.
