Tottenham match Newcastle’s all-time Premier League record
Following their thumping 4-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, Tottenham Hotspur matched a Premier League record that was set by Newcastle United 22 years ago.
Tottenham show their powers of recovery
Tottenham Hotspur once again came from behind to hammer their opponents on Sunday, with Aston Villa being unable to cope with the home side’s pressing and intensity in the second period.
The fact that the Lilywhites put four past such a well-organised side speaks volumes about just how devastating Ange Postecoglou‘s men can be when things click for them.
The result sends a message to the rest of the Premier League and puts Spurs firmly in the race for fourth, with the club now sitting just two points behind Villa and Arsenal.
Spurs equal record
Tottenham have made it a habit to go a goal down at home before regrouping and taking their opponents to the cleaners.
This happened against both Brentford and West Ham earlier this season, and Villa suffered the same fate on Sunday, with Unai Emery’s men not knowing what hit them in the second period.
According to Squawka, Tottenham have now equalled a record set by Newcastle back in 2002 by winning eight Premier League home matches from losing positions in a calendar year.
Postecoglou will not want to see his side beat Newcastle’s record
While this record is certainly impressive and shows that Tottenham have a fabulous ability to drag themselves back into games, it also shows that the North London side have made a habit of conceding first.
I am sure Postecoglou would prefer to see his side dominate from the start and avoid conceding the early goal before going up through the gears.
