Kansas law lets you take time off work to vote

KANSAS (KSNT) - Kansas law says employees are entitled to two hours of time off to go vote.

According to Kansas Statute 25-418, anyone who's entitled to vote in an election is allowed to take time off to go vote. The law allows voters two hours while the polls are open.

Those eligible to vote can take time out of their day to vote and are exempt from salary deductions. Those voters are legally obligated to have no penalties, or deductions from their salary or wages on account of their absence.

Employers who prevent a worker from voting face a class A misdemeanor for obstruction of voting privilege.

"The employer may specify the particular time during the day which said employee may absent himself as aforesaid except such specified time shall not include any time during the regular lunch period," the Kansas statute reads.
