ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Republican Jim Tedisco has won the 44th District of the State Senate. The Associated Press has called the race for Tedisco over Democrat Minita Sanghvi.

Tedisco was first elected to State Senate District 44 in 2016 and is a ranking member of the Racing, Wagering, and Gaming Committee and the Education Committee. Tedisco served in the New York State Assembly for 33 years before he moved into his seat as a senator.

Tedisco graduated from Union College and the College of Saint Rose. He has also long advocated for missing persons, animal cruelty, and other issues.

Sanghvi’s issues of interest included protecting reproductive rights, protections and rights for the LGBTQ+ community, affordable housing, improving infrastructure, and eliminating high healthcare prices.
